The Nike Air Penny 4 is Coming Back

Nike Air Penny 4

Of all the on court models Nike decided to bring back, arguably their best was the Nike Penny line. Recently, Nike brought out such favorites as the Air Penny 2 in a bevy of nostalgic colorways. Now, we learn that the Swoosh is planning on bringing back the Nike Air Penny 4.

Scheduled for a 2017 release, the Air Penny 4 will be available in at least three colorways. All three take inspiration from Hardaway’s time with the Orlando Magic. Nonetheless, you can expect an expanded line of options. We’re just not sue what those options are at the moment.

What we do we have is a schematic illustration of the Nike Air Penny 4’s 2017 retro. Per those images, we can see that Nike tries to maintain the sneaker’s original features. From the heel pods and traction to the shoe’s pull tab, few efforts are spared. Additionally, you can expect the OG clear Air bag on 2017’s retro.

As of now, we have very little information about this shoe’s drop date. What we know is that the Nike Air Penny 4 releases in 2017, very likely in the Spring season. Follow us on Twitter as we learn more. Also, you can check back with us for release links once these retros officially drop.

Have a look at the pics above and let us know if you’re looking forward to these coming back.

Author’s Take

News of the Nike Air Penny 4 coming back might not be the most exciting for your average sneaker. Heck, it might not even tempt very many Penny fans.

The Air Penny 4 has something of an awkward place in the signature line’s history. Originally released back in 1996, this sneaker was introduced around the time when Penny fever was starting to wear off. Shaq had left the Magic and Penny was much less intimidating at this point, lacking in the burst that endeared him to so many.

That being said, I’m actually looking forward to the Nike Air Penny 4 retro. It’s place in sneaker history makes it interesting at the very least and it still stands as a quality basketball sneaker.
