Earlier this year, we found out that Jordan Brand was looking to bring back the Air Jordan 9. In fact, the 2016 retro is going to be in the sneaker’s originally released iteration. Known as the shoe’s OG colorway, the Air Jordan 9 Playoff is coming back this Winter.
The upper consists of a White leather base. Soft suede overlays make up the lining extending from the ankle, down along the midsole, and to the toe cap.
Air Jordan 9 Playoff Release Date
The Air Jordan is an interesting piece of the legendary line’s history. This sneaker originally dropped during MJ’s first retirement. As such, the 9 has long suffered a status as one of the most underrated Jordan models out there. In an interesting twist, the GOAT’s return saw the following model, the Air Jordan 10, go up in popularity.

I was more than happy to hear that this OG Air Jordan 9 would be returning. These images only make me more excited for this year’s retro. Though my opinion of the 9 is as “ehh” as most sneaker heads, this colorway is a different story. It’s what started the shoe’s short stay in the NBA. This was the colorway that first hit the courts as hoops fans were getting used to a Jordan-less NBA.
I’ll take the sneaker with an interesting story anytime.
